13 Ways to Increase Your Mental Strength

13 Ways to Increase Your Mental Strength

Here are 13 things mentally strong people do to turn self-doubt into empowerment. Use these strategies to take back control of your life!

  1. Don’t Dwell On The Past

Mentally strong people forget what is behind them and move towards what is coming.  Looking back takes too much energy. Don’t waste your energy on the negatives, focus on the positives.  It’s natural to be anxious while thinking of the past; don’t let this hold you back from moving forward.  Learn from your past mistakes, but don’t dwell on them. Take a quick moment to reflect on the past, and then move on.  This will help you take back control of your life.Don't dwell on the past

  1. Stop Worrying.

Stop worrying about what can go wrong; instead get excited about what can go right.  The more you focus on something, the more you create of it. Worrying only breeds more worry.  Worrying won’t stop things from happening, but it will prevent you from enjoying the pleasures of your life.  Be mentally strong and move on.

  1. Be Patient

Mentally strong people understand change is a process, not an event.  Embrace the process of change as you strive to meet your goals.  Mentally strong people are open-minded and adaptable.  Be patient during the change process.  Freaking out will cause you to not enjoy the process and takes up to much negative energy.

Change is a process

  1. Do Not Give Up

Giving up is the easy way to live your life. It takes no energy to walk away when things get tough and only brings on negativity when you realize giving up helped you miss out on achieving your goals.  Tell yourself “I can” instead of “I can’t” and keep going.  To build your mental strength you must be resilient.  If you make a mistake, shake it off and keep going. Mentally strong people do not let their mistakes stop them.  Take responsibility for your actions and move on.

  1. Stop Resenting Those Who have Success

Holding onto resentment only punishes you. You are the person living with the negativity.  Quit allowing those nasty thoughts to take up precious space in your mind. You are a reflection of your own thoughts. Don’t let your mind be taken over with negativity.

  1. Be Content with Who You Are

Do you have a negative attitude about yourself?  It usually means you want attention or recognition. Quit feeling sorry for yourself, get out of victim mode, and embrace yourself for who you are.  Mentally strong people don’t waste time thinking negatively about themselves, instead they are content with being who they are, just the way they are.

  1. Learn to Say No.

Are you a yes or a no person? Are you the person who helps everyone, even when it hurts you? Learn to say no.  There are some people out there who will take advantage of your willingness to always help out, don’t be a victim to this.  I know it feels great to be wanted or needed. There is a difference between being taken advantage of and serving others.  Learn to say no to people who are taking advantage of you. Having mental strength means you don’t need validation from others; instead you take pleasure in serving others. This could be as simple as holding a door open for someone.

  1. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Don’t wait until you are comfortable, that time may never come. Do it scared! Mentally strong people will step out of their comfort zone and go for it.  The more often you take on the “do it scared” challenge, the easier it will become.  The more you do, the quicker you will look back and wonder why you were scared to begin with.  Get some mental strength and “do it scared!”

Consider this, who has the biggest impact on your life?  You do!  How you spend your time directly impacts you.  Give yourself positive affirmations.  All your thoughts, words, and beliefs help shape who you are today. 1. Celebrate

Mentally strong people take time to acknowledge their accomplishments.  Take time to celebrate what you have worked for and be grateful for your accomplishments.  Celebrating will help keep your momentum and positive energy flowing.  Staying in a positive mindset will encourage you to continue empowering yourself.
